silica for metallic paint

The recommended addition amount of hydrochloric precipitated silica (also known as hydrochloric acid silica or coating grade silica powder) varies depending on the type of coating system and the desired performance effect (matting, rheology, anti-settling, etc.).

Common Addition Range

1

Basic Matte Effect (1%-3%)

- Semi-matte Effect: 2%-4% typically achieves a semi-matte effect with a 60° gloss level between 30-60 GU.

- Low Addition Application: 0.5%-2% for slight matte finish or as a rheology modifier.

2

Medium Matte Effect (3%-6%)

- Matte Effect: 5%-8% achieves a full matte effect, reducing the 60° gloss level to below 30 GU.

- Architectural Coatings: Optimal dosage of nano-silica in exterior wall coatings is 0.3%-1.0%, improving washability and weather resistance.

3

High Matte Effect (6%-10%)

- Ultra-matte finish: 8%-10%, suitable for special applications with extremely low gloss.

- Industrial coatings: In solvent-based coatings, 3%-10% achieves semi-matte to full matte effect.
