The Impacts of Silica Impurities on Silica in Precipitated Silicon Dioxide
During the manufacture of precipitated silicon dioxide, impurities such as Cu, Fe, and Mn are often introduced. While these impurities have little impact on the properties of rubber materials, to ensure that silicone rubber products have excellent antioxidant and anti-aging properties, the content of Cu, Fe, and Mn must be reduced to a certain degree. According to the GB10517 standard for precipitated silicon dioxide, the requirements are: Cu ≤ 30 mg/kg, Mn ≤ 50 mg/kg, and Fe ≤ 1000 mg/kg.

The acetate in the production of precipitated silicon dioxide is inevitable, but if the sodium content is too high, it is not suitable as a natural or rubber reinforcing material, as the transparency of the rubber is significantly reduced. However, by controlling the generation process to avoid excessive formation of Na-CMC in packaging and strengthening of semi-finished material slurry immersion, the acetate content can be reduced to less than 0.5%. This type of precipitated silicon dioxide has little impact on the characteristics of the rubber material.
Despite the challenges posed by impurities in the production of precipitated silicon dioxide, there is still an optimistic outlook for the future. As technology advances, manufacturers are better equipped to mitigate the introduction of impurities and improve their products' quality. Furthermore, research on alternative materials and production processes is ongoing, which could enable the development of purer and more effective silicon dioxide products.
In conclusion, while impurities such as Cu, Fe, and Mn and acetate in the production of precipitated silicon dioxide can have an impact on the rubber material's characteristics, these issues can be addressed through proper control and technology advancement. Moreover, there is an ongoing effort to develop alternative materials and production processes for purer and more effective silicon dioxide products.
