What are the applications of silica in resin materials? Resin matrix composites have the characteristics of light weight, high strength and corrosion resistance, which provides a new way for the modification of traditional resin matrix materials. As long as silica particles can be fully and uniformly dispersed into the resin materials, the performance of resin matrix materials can be improved.

1. Improve strength and elongation. Epoxy resin is a basic resin material. Adding silicon dioxide to epoxy resin is completely different from the epoxy resin based composite material added with coarse crystalline silicon dioxide (white carbon black, etc.) in structure. Coarse crystalline SiO2 is generally added as a reinforcing agent, which is mainly distributed in the chain of polymer materials. However, due to the serious coordination shortage, huge specific surface area and lack of oxygen on the surface of silicon dioxide, It makes it show strong activity, easy to bond with the oxygen of epoxy ring molecules, and improves the bonding force between molecules. At the same time, a part of silicon dioxide particles are still distributed in the gaps of the polymer chain. Compared with coarse crystalline SiO2 particles, it shows high fluidity, which greatly improves the strength, toughness and ductility of epoxy resin materials added with silicon dioxide.

2. Improve wear resistance and surface finish of materials. Silica particles are 100-1000 times smaller than SiO2. Adding silica particles to epoxy resin is beneficial to drawing. Due to the high fluidity and small size effect of silicon dioxide, the material surface is more compact, fine and clean, and the friction coefficient is smaller. In addition, the high strength of nano particles greatly enhances the wear resistance of the material.
3. Anti aging performance. A fatal weakness of epoxy resin matrix composites in use is poor anti-aging performance, which is mainly due to the ultraviolet medium and long wave effects of 280-400nm solar radiation. Its destructive effect on resin matrix composites is very serious. The degradation of polymer chains causes rapid aging of resin matrix composites. Silica can strongly reflect ultraviolet light, and its addition to epoxy resin can greatly reduce the degradation of ultraviolet light on epoxy resin, so as to delay the aging of materials.
