Test Method for Silica
Many people may wonder how the aging resistance, wear resistance, high and low temperature resistance, acid and alkaline resistance, insulation and other characteristics of rubber products are obtained? This is to start with the reinforcing agent in the rubber additive, which is different from the filler used to improve the volume of rubber and reduce the cost of raw materials. The reinforcing agent plays a reinforcing role in the mechanical properties and aging resistance of rubber. So the tonic is like all kinds of magic potions in Harry Potter. After drinking it, you can get the super power of becoming others or shrinking.

There is a general in the reinforcing agent of colored rubber products, whose name is white carbon black. As the name implies, white carbon black is a white powder, granular or massive substance. Its main component is silica, so its two products are named precipitated hydrated silica (precipitated silica) and fumed silica (fumed silica).
These two kinds of silica are not suitable. Precipitated silica can be used to make tires, rubber shoes, rubber tubes, tapes, heat-resistant gaskets, medical supplies and other various colored or white rubber products. Fumed silica is mainly used to make silicone rubber. In addition, it is also the main reinforcing agent for V-belt, rubber roller, rubber tube, cable, oil seal and foaming products.
White carbon black is widely used in rubber products. How can we improve the production efficiency and control accuracy of white carbon black through inspection, so as to save energy, ensure the quality and production stability of products, and improve the market competitiveness of products? This naturally requires us to fully grasp the test standard of white carbon black and knock on the test items of white carbon black.
1、 White carbon black testing project
1). Test items of precipitated silica (precipitated silica hydrate)
The chemical formula of precipitated silica is SiO2 · nH2O. The test items of precipitated silica mainly include silica content, color, 45 μ m sieve residue, heating reduction, burning reduction, pH value, total copper content, total manganese content, total iron content, dibutyl phthalate absorption value, water-soluble matter, 300% constant elongation stress, 500% constant elongation stress, tensile strength, elongation at break, physical form, dispersion, specific surface area and other indicators.
2). Test items of high dispersion precipitated silica (high dispersion precipitated hydrated silica)
The test items of high dispersion precipitated silica are basically the same as those of ordinary precipitated silica, but the test items of technical indexes and typical values are added. Therefore, the technical specifications of high dispersion precipitated silica still need to detect the two indexes, i.e. median particle size and particle proportion. The typical value requires to test the total surface area, CTAB adsorption specific surface area and dispersion.
3). Test items of fumed silica (fumed silica)
The appearance of fumed silica is required to be fluffy white powder. The specific test items mainly include specific surface area of nitrogen adsorption, loss on ignition, silicon dioxide content, aluminum oxide content, titanium dioxide content, iron oxide content, carbon content, chloride content, pH value of suspension, volatile matter at 105 ℃, vibrating density, 45 μ m sieve residue and other indicators.
