How to test DBP absorption value of silicon dioxide(SiO2)?

As the superfine particle,SiO2 has a larger specific surface area and adsorption characteristics, it has the corresponding application characteristics, such as as a rubber reinforcing agent, its oil absorption value is closely related to the physical properties of rubber products. The higher the oil absorption value, the better the strengthening performance.
How to test DBP?
○ Equipment : Microtiter, analytical balance, glass plate, glass rod
○ Method(The testing sample should be dried at (105±2)°C for 1.5h before testing.Weigh dry sample 1g (precise to 0.001g), placed on a glass plate, began to drop at a faster rate of dibutyl phthalate.)
① When added to the sample equivalent to 2/3 of the absorption value of the sample, lightly temper it with a glass rod to infiltrate the dibutyl phthalate with the sample. Then continue to roll, so that the granular sample completely broken.
② Continue adding drops of dibutyl phthalate at a slower rate and continue rolling.
③ When the sample is completely infiltrated with dibutyl phthalate, the mixture appears in small strips or small pieces, and there is no dry powder, the sample can be rolled on the glass rod or the glass plate without oil traces, the test of DBP is finished.
○ Calculation ![]()
V—the consumption of dibutyl phthalate;
M- the weight of sample.
The final absorption value(cm3/g) is calculated based on the consumption of dibutyl phthalate absorbed in the 1g sample.
Note: The difference between the two test results must not exceed 0.13 cm3/g.
