Hydrophobic silica is generally a post-treated product. Different types of precipitated silica can be used as the starting material to react with a suitable compound through a silicon hydrocarbyl group; this product is hydrophobic due to the surface-linked non-hydrolyzed methyl groups.

Unlike the original hydrophilic silica, hydrophobic silica can not be wetted with water. Although the hydrophobic silica density is greater than the density of water, they can float on the water. After hydrophobization, the amount of moisture absorbed will be significantly lower than that of the original hydrophilic vaporized silicon.

By surface treatment of precipitated silica, its technical performance can be optimized in a number of specific applications, which can effectively improve the rheological properties of many liquid polymer systems, especially in the epoxy resin system.

1.What is the application of hydrophobic silica？

2.What is hydrated silica?

Hydrated Silica (English name Hydrated Silica; Silicondioxidehydrate), also known as white carbon black , also known as light silica, the main component is silica, white amorphous powder. Light Loose, soluble in caustic and hydrofluoric acid, insoluble in water, solvents and acids (except hydrofluoric acid). High temperature, nonflammable, tasteless, odorless, with good electrical insulation. Its performance is similar to carbon black , but it is white.The molecular formula and the structural formula can be represented by SiO2 · nH2O, where nH2O is present as a surface hydroxyl group. Its macroscopic structure is similar to carbon black, the particles are spherical, single particles between the surface contact, was chain-like structure (secondary structure). Chain structure and hydrogen bond force to form a group of aggregates. The original particles are very fine, absorb moisture in the air to form aggregated fine particles. Silica particles on the surface of hydroxyl particles, mainly isolated hydroxyl, adjacent hydroxyl, silicon three (see Figure 2,3). Wherein the adsorption of polar groups from adjacent hydroxyl groups is important. The presence of these groups makes the silica surface has a strong hydrophilic, surface area and dispersion capacity are large, mechanical strength and tear resistance are high. High temperature does not decompose, high insulation, with small particles, large surface area, high structural characteristics.
